Theo Travis to guest on new Syn album
It has been announced that Theo Travis will be recording material for the forthcoming Big Sky album by The Syn.

"I have had the privilege of playing and recording with some amazingmusicians including Palle Mikkelborg who guested on my 2001 CD Heartof the Sun; Anja Garbarek (2001 album and tour); David Sylvian (Nine Horses CD); Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree CDs , No Man, Bass Communion); John Etheridge, Soft Machine Legacy; Richard Sinclair and Hatfield and the North; Dick Heckstall-Smith; Bill Bruford; Tony Coe; Pierre Moerlin, and the late Slim Gaillard. In 1999 I became a new member of Daevid Allen's Gong touring the USA, Europe, Japan,
Scandinavia, and the UK and co-writing most of the group's album Zero to Infinity released in Feb 2000. I subsequently produced their live album Live to Infinitea, released in October 2000 and to date have played over 120 dates with them all over the world.
I am also a member of the new Progressive band - the Tangent (http://thetangent.org) which is doing great things at the moment. My website is at http://www.theotravis.com and I do try and keep it up to date with gigs, recordings etc."

Porcupine Tree: filming new DVD in October

PT will play 2 shows at 013, Tilburg, the Netherlands, on 15th and 16th October. The short run of European shows (sorry no US shows this time) during October is in order to shoot a DVD based on the Fear of a Blank Planet album cycle, and the main body of the filming will take place at Tilburg, where the band will play as much different material as possible during the course of the 2 nights. So please come along and help us to make the atmosphere very special and get yourself in the film! Tickets are on sale from the 7th June from www.013web.nl.

Porcupine Tree mini-Europe tour
London show announced
In October Porcupine Tree will undertake a short European tour in order to shoot their second live DVD - this will be the final time that the Fear of a Blank Planet tour repertoire will be performed, but there may also be some surprises! The first show to be announced is at the Indigo2 venue in London. This is situated within the same building (formerly the Millenium Dome) as the O2 Arena, and is a wonderful new venue. Tickets will shortly be on sale from ticketmaster.

A few small bits of prog news
Dutch band Knight Area replaces Magenta at FMPM in Montreal. At the same time, "Knight Area currently is a 5 piece band. Rinie Huigen - one of the guitarists - has left the band and I (the one who started the whole thing) has left too, but started a new project Brandaris '78. I'm still doing some promotion and web maintenance for the band (my brother is in it you know...)," according to founder Joop Klazinga.
As has been discussed ad nauseum in a load of places, The Flower Kings have stepped down from their headlining spot at this year's ROSfest. They have been replaced by Maryland art rockers Crack the Sky, featuring original members John Palumbo, Joey D'Amico and Joe Macre.
Porcupine Tree has announced the release of a new live EP recorded in Orlando FL at a record shop in-store. Titled We Lost the Skyline, the EP features founder Steven Wilson and touring guitarist/vocalist John Wesley on 8 songs performed acoustically, including several rarely or never played. A highlight for this writer is a performance of the opening vocal section of "The Sky Moves Sideways," the lyrical source for this release's title.
The EP can be ordered HERE. US residents may be better served ordering from HERE in order to save on shipping costs (thanks to FZDolfan for reminding me about this link/site...it's the actual store the performance was recorded at).
